The Coordinator Global Citizens sent a message of greetings to Conductor Oksana Lyniv, a native of Ukraine, which was the first woman to conduct the orchestra in the festival’s 145-year run — a fact that reportedly also pleased German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The Coordinator’s message reads, in part:
“ Although you are still young, Your life and professional career deserve the deepest respect.
This achievement is a well-deserved award for your hard work, talent, and dedication. Apart from being a major personal success, your brilliant triumph is a weighty contribution to increasing Ukraine’s prestige and promotion abroad.
I want to thank You sincerely. And, of course, let me say special words of gratitude to your mentors, who led you to this beautiful and convincing victory. “
According to the official website of the Bayreuth Festival Theatre:
Oksana Lyniv was assistant to the Chief Conductor of the Lviv National Academy Opera and Ballet Theatre before becoming Permanent Guest Conductor of the Leopolis Chamber Symphony Orchestra in 2003. From 2005 to 2009, Lyniv completed a postgraduate and then master class study at the Dresden University of Music.
